Amber Johnson
Amber has been quilting for more than 20 years. When she was newly married and living away from her immediate family, with a husband who traveled a lot, she needed a hobby! She asked her grandmother Delma to teach her how to quilt. Delma, an award-winning quilter, was thrilled that someone else in the family wanted to learn how to quilt. Although it took Amber about three years to finish her first quilt, she was hooked!
A decade later, Amber started a quilt-pattern design business called Gigi's Thimble, a tribute to the nickname "Gigi" that Delma's great-grandchildren affectionately used for her. Amber has been blogging and designing quilt patterns since 2009. Amber loves to host quilt-alongs on Instagram, do trunk shows, share tutorials, and teach classes. She often finds inspiration in antique quilts--whether in the design itself or in the maker's fabric selection. She hopes to inspire others to think outside the box with their own creative color combinations.
Besides Amber's love of quilting, her greatest joys come from being a wife and being a mother to two teenagers. She grew up in Vancouver, Washington, and now resides in Alpine, Utah, where she loves to run and hike. She's a home-design enthusiast and has a bit of wanderlust, hoping to do a lot more traveling as time and money permit.
