Rarely, do I find a book that totally appeals to me. As I was looking through all of images I was totally enchanted! This book is definitely going into my bookcase.
The book contains 14 traditional quilt patterns but are updated in new fabrics. The projects range from quilts to table runners to baby quilts and finally a pillow. As with all quilting patterns, any can be resized by adding more blocks or borders or subtracting the same.

Templates included are at full size. Each pattern has a photo, a paragraph about the pattern and finished quilt and block size before the list of materials needed and the cutting list. There are graphics to help you along and you can find tip, suggestions and ideas set off in colored boxes throughout the book.

After the table of contents, you can find a three-page section on fabrics. At the end of the book, you will find an eight-page section on quilting basics. Finally, there is a one-page bio about the author.

If you like triangles, plug signs, orange peel template, churn dash or blocks that look like tulips, you will find all of that in this book.
Vintage Vibe is just as you would hope it it, an excellent blend of modern and traditional styles. The projects are well written and striking, and would be suitable for someone just starting out.

Exactly as the title says, these are traditional style quilt patterns, but the look is totally new and fresh. I love her choice of colors and fabrics.

Review from Quilters Companion, Vol 14 No. 1, January/February 2015

Amber's passion is mixing old with new in her home, her wardrobe and in her quiltmaking. In this series of 14 quilts, Amber has endeavoured to "marry modern, fresh designs with vintage undertones". You will find a lovely mix of pieced and appliqued projects in this book.

Amber Johnson

When Amber was 20 (and having been married for just a few months), she asked her grandmother, an avid, award-winning quilter, to teach her how to quilt. Over the period of many, many months, they walked through every step of the quiltmaking process. Amber is so very grateful to her grandmother for passing on the quilting legacy.

Amber nurtured her love of quilting over the next few years and spent many hours dreaming of opening a quilt shop. But then she had a baby and realized that life wasn't just about her and her husband. She knew she didn't want to spend long days running a store. She wondered what she could do that would let her be a stay-at-home mom and express her creative side at the same time. Pattern designing seemed to be the perfect fit.

Gigi's Thimble, her pattern-design company, was born in the latter part of 2009. It's named after Amber's grandmother, whom Amber's children call "Gigi." When Amber first started quilting, her grandmother gave her a thimble. To this day, with every push of the needle, the thimble reminds Amber of their precious quiltmaking lessons. Amber also has a quilting blog called A Little Bit Biased, where she shares her love of color, design, and fabric with the online community. She lives in Alpine, Utah, and works part-time at a fabric store, where she loves teaching classes and drooling over new shipments of fabric. But for her, the best part is helping people pick out fabrics, figure out measurements, and find inspiration. She loves seeing what others are working on and helping to spread the joy of quilting to those just getting started.
