Yukari Takahara of Kyoto, Japan, graduated from university with a degree in art. In 1992, after teaching in both elementary and middle schools, she and her husband opened a picture-book gallery using their own personal collection. The gallery grew to include a cafe, a gift shop, and a quilt shop called Yuufu-sha. Ms. Takahara teaches crafts and painting from her studio at the same location. In addition to their own artwork and activities, she holds many events at Yuufu-sha throughout the year.
