Hurry and grab this adorable book filled with whimsical snowmen embroidery designs before those April showers wash them away! No matter if you are an experienced stitcher or just wanting to learn a few basic embroidery stitches this book is for you. Robin Kingsley presents simple to stitch, fun and whimsical hand-embroidery projects featuring a family of charismatic snowmen. They can be found cooking, sewing, quilting and frolicking in a winter wonderland created with pretty blue fabrics and simple embroidery stitches. Robin covers the basic embroidery supplies, there are just a few items you may not already have in your sewing arsenal. She uses Size 8 pearl cotton for her stitching. The basic stitches include: Backstitch, Cross- Stitch, Lazy Daisy, Feather Stitch, Fly Stitch, French Knot, Herringbone Stitch, Running Stitch, Satin Stitch and Straight Stitch. Once you master these stitches you won't have any problems adding embroidery to your applique work.
The projects in the book range from book marks and totes to needle work accessories, tea towels, mug rugs, pillows and quilts. The designs are all printed full size with an embroidery key identifying which stitch you should use. You will need to trace over the designs in the book then transfer them to your background fabric. All instructions to do this are included and are easy to follow. I can't think of a more fun way to work in a few embroidery projects featuring "blue work" instead of traditional "red work" using a pretty ice blue and white color scheme than the projects found in this book.
Review from Fabrications Quilting for You, November/December 2016
Simple and so much fun to stitch, these hand embroidery designs feature some of winter's favourite characters - Snowmen! To complete the wintry scene all projects are shown in blue and white, but of course you can choose your own colours. Sewing tips and basics accompany these delightfully simple and enticing projects for creating pillows, quilts, wall hangings, pincushions, mug rugs, book marks and bags. Each one has photographs, step-by-step instructions and an embroidery panel to trace including a stitch key. Design your own scenes by swapping snowmen characters, borrowing a hat from one, giving another a different message, or personalising them with the name of a loved one. The possibilities are endless. Enjoy!
