Review from Popular Patchwork magazine

This book brings together a collection of sixteen pieced and appliqued quilt designs taken from the pages of McCall's Quilting. The book captures the heart of what quilting is really all about: recycling fabrics and breathing new life into discarded scraps. It also reminds us that scrappy quilts can invoke strong memories, leading us down memory lane by the use of old remnants of clothing and household textiles. Highlights for us were Tailgate, a lap quilt made out of striped flannels, Patchwork Preserves using big, bold single patches and Countryside Star with its beautiful appliqued border. Because these projects have been selected from a monthly magazine on the basis of their 'scrappiness' rather than conforming to a particular theme, the book is an eclectic mix of designs, featuring both traditional and contemporary fabric choices, piecing and applique, so will suit a variety of tastes and abilities.
