Review from Popular Patchwork, March 2017

Having recently worked on a few long-term quilt projects I was feeling I needed a "hit" of instant sewing and so was thrilled when a review copy of Simple, Fun and Quickly Done landed on my desk. Containing 18 sewing projects, the book has an excellent selection of makes for the home, or as presents. Most can be started and finished in a day or two which means you can get that wonderful feeling of satisfaction of completing a project. I teach beginner classes, and often encourage students to make something fairly straightforward to pick up new skills, or get used to the sewing machine, and so the speed of which these projects can be made make this book ideal for someone new to sewing and quilting. At the beginning of the book the author mentions that quite a few of the projects use zips, however, if you are new to them, or avoid them, do not fear as this book will gently build your skills. There are lots of tips dotted about and I felt it must be like having the author at your shoulder supporting you as you sew. The instructions are clear, something that perhaps comes from the author's experience of running a sewing pattern business, and of working as a home economics teacher. In the introduction she says, "I'm the one you wish you had!" Although the projects are described as "simple", the projects feature details such as scalloped edges, fabric rosettes and twisted fabric tubes which will push many quilters out of their comfort zone.

The creative force behind Atkinson Designs, Terry Atkinson is a former home economics teacher whose love of quilting morphed into teaching quilt classes at a local shop. That quilt-class beginning soon grew into a popular line of quilt patterns and the family-run business that is Atkinson Designs. When she's not playing with fabric in her sewing room, you can find her exploring the great outdoors in her retro Shasta camper.
