This book features a great set of very quick and easy quilts. Although the title suggests that these projects are based on precut fabrics, often they use strips cut to a specific width from fabrics in your own stash, or stacking and slashing large pieces of fabric into smaller units. These patterns do not require you to purchase a particular Jelly Roll or Layer Cake so are very good stash busters. The focus of this simple technique is on quick strip piecing and making good use of strip sets. Interestingly, the quilts themselves are constructed by sewing lots of thin rows together rather than building up a set of traditional blocks, and this also seems to speed up the process and improve accuracy. There is a little fusible applique in some of the projects, such as the one on the cover, but even the applique is speeded up by cutting shapes in half! There are some great ideas here and it's definitely worth a look.

Are you needing a quilt for a present and only have a week? Then this book will help you get it done. Sewing with jelly rolls, charm packs, layer cakes, or honey buns take out the need to cut fabric into the sizes the patterns call for.
Sounds like a bakery, doesn’t it? Jelly rolls are 2 1/2" strips, charm packs are 5" squares, layer cakes are 10" squares, and honey buns are 1 1/2" strips. If you have more time, you can cut the fabric you have into these sizes. The author also uses strip sets, fusible applique, and machine stitching.
I love the variety of the patterns using these techniques. One pattern looks like railroad tracks, another looks like Chinese Lanterns, and yet another looks like the blocks were sewn with inset seams (not something I like to do, but I love the look).
The patterns each include a color photo, finished block and quilt sizes, followed by a blurb about the pattern/quilt. The standard material/cutting lists are given and graphics are included to help you through the written instructions. No specific quilting instructions are given.
With a dozen patterns to choose from, my only problem is which one to start with!
