Review from Popular Patchwork, January 2013
Exploring Embellishments is a very gentle and encouraging introduction to enhancing your work through the art of embellishment. Rose Hughes has developed a very effective background piecing technique using a combination of reverse machine applique and couching, which creates a great bottom layer for her designs. She builds up her quilts with simple applique and adds a final layer of extra zing with embellishment. There are six projects included here, all designed and made in Rose's quirky, vibrant style. Each project focuses on a different embellishment technique, using air-dry clay beads, Angelina fibers, chenille stems (good old pipe cleaners really), wool roving or Lutradur. These techniques are handled very simply, so this is a great beginner's guide- a friendly helping hand to learn unfussy, effective art quilt techniques with basic tools and materials.
