Welcome to the artful world of Japanese master embroiderer Reiko Mori, a place where embroidery embodies charm, grace, and true elegance. Choose from more than 40 picturesque motifs, many grouped into enchanting vignettes to mix and match; then use the motifs in 11 projects, including totes, fabric-covered boxes, and more.
Learn 16 embroidery stitches to create designs for holidays (a wreath and tiny ornaments); seasons (chubby bees buzzing around dimensional daisies); and everyday occasions (an antique sewing machine and scissors). Themed chapters include flower, marine, and Christmas collections, as well as an assortment of Ms. Mori's signature black-on-linen designs. Embroidery enthusiasts will love re-creating this captivating collection.

Elegant Embroidery by Reiko Mori provides motifs from a Japanese embroiderer who outlines some forty images; then demonstrates how to incorporate them into a variety of projects. Some of these ideas, such as embellishing boxes with fabric and the motif, are innovative and not readily seen in other collections; while all the motifs are original, revealing, and fun ideas for a range of projects that begin with the introductory pieces featured and hold potential for other applications.
Born into a trading merchant family in Osaka, Reiko Mori grew up having access to fabric and other materials from around the world. She spent her teen years immersing herself in handcrafts and fashion with her mother, who enjoyed sewing. She moved to Tokyo when she was 20 years old and began her career working for a magazine. She married, became a mother, and raised her growing family but had a dream of working with fabric. In 2000, she opened a shop featuring handmade goods in the Setagaya district of Tokyo called Love Letter. Around the same time she also became fascinated with computer software and the ability to work on 3D objects. This led her to begin designing embroidery patterns using 3D aspects. Along with authoring books, Ms. Mori also teaches sewing and embroidery classes, which she considers to be an opportunity for her to learn.Visit Reiko's website
