The Make It Martingale series is an interesting starter range of simple quilt patterns for beginners. Each book is based on a simple theme and contains around ten quick and easy projects. This one focuses on 5 inch charm squares - others cover similar ground using fat quarters, quick piecing, scrap quilting or themes such as baby or festive quilts. There are ten good quilt projects here; none are hugely innovative, but all are cheerful and quick to make and would make lovely gifts. It's worth remembering that you can easily adapt most of these projects to use with stash scraps rather than pre-cut 5 inch squares, and they would all be excellent projects for fabric swaps. If you've ever found yourself unable to resist a pretty charm pack and not been able to think of what to do with it then this book could prove very helpful.
