Mary Etherington is a cofounder, with Connie Tesene, of the famed Country Threads Quilt Shop and a popular author. While officially retired from the quilt-shop business, Mary stays in touch with former customers through the Country Threads Chicken Scratch blog. She keeps busy by dog sitting, caring for her animals, tending many houseplants and succulents, playing piano at two churches and a care center, and sewing every single day.

Connie Tesene

Since retiring in 2014 I have enjoyed the luxury of time--time for gardening, babysitting, volunteering, traveling, reading, feathering my nest, and sewing. My husband, Roy, and I still live in the home where we raised our three boys; it's a wonderful house but it is also 120 years old and always seems to need a remodeling project. I have an ambitious plan for a large gardening project in the spring and I can hardly wait to get that dirt under my fingernails. I'd like to be remembered as a maker of pies, quilts, gardens, art, fun, and home. What more could one ask out of life?
